Most travelers are exploring life and are open to new ideas. As well as on a physical journey, many are also on a spiritual one. Wouldnt it be great if you could introduce them to Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life?

We have found that many young people are very open to talk about God and the important questions of life. And in the hostel the barrier to actually do this is very low. Our team of workers in very international and about the same age as the guests, this makes it easy to relate. Through the practical service and hospitality, we build relationships with the travelers. And the clear Christian identity of the Shelter hostels serves as an invitation for many to ask spiritual questions.

Sharing Christ

As a staff member you will have many opportunities, therefore, to engage in personal conversations with guests and hopefully share the hope that is in you. Whether you actually will share the Gospel or pray with people, depends for a great part on your own initiative and obedience to God. We expect our staff members to have a heart for people, be outgoing, and to have a desire to communicate Christ.

Ways in which we communicate the Gospel:

• practical service and hospitality
• conversations with individual guests
• brochures and books with the Gospel message
• daily Bible study
• creative arts: music, drama, film, testimony
• special celebrations and meals
• and more

Changing lives

We greatly rejoice when a guest gives his or her life to Christ. We are thankful that we can witness this on a very regular basis. But for most of the 30,000 guests a year we do not know whether and how their lives have changed during their stay in The Shelter. Most of them only stay for two or three days (a few stay for a number of weeks) before they continue their travels. We trust that we assisted them somehow in their spiritual walk en helped them to take the next step in their spiritual journey or growth. Some plant, some water, and God makes it grow (1Cor. 3:6).
